Wow! I have just completed Day 1 of the CHEA Homeschool Convention . Well, it is now a little past midnight and I have just finished printing some required materials for Friday’s session. The convention is usually kicked off by the Leadership conference and then a free homeschool intro session. Anyway here is what happened today.
Welcome of new leaders to Leadership conference.
Opening Keynote by Norm Wakefield
Workshops by J. Michael Smith of HSLDA (How Homeschool Leaders Measure Success), Scott Schofield of CHEA (Building a Budget for Your Homeschool Group), Susan Beatty of CHEA (When Leaders Hurt)
Leadership Luncheon: Updates from Roy Hansen and Nathan Pierce of FPM, the Legislative watch dogs for California; Support Network Awards Ceremony; Keynote by Norm Wakefield (How to Lead by Grace)
More workshops by Chuck and Pam Geib (Homeschoo Leadership Q & A – Panel Discussion), Tracy Klicka (When You Are in the Valley), Craig G. Smith (How and Why You Should Start a Speech & Debate Club), Rebecca Kocsis (Ya Gotta Love ‘Em), Norm Wakefield (How Leaders Apply Vision Principle), Fern Sikich (Homeschool Themes & Event Planning)
Closing Leadership Keynote: Dr. Henry Morris III (Pulling Down Strongholds)
Free Homeschooling Intro Session: 6:30-8:00pm, Welcome, Law, Legislation, Day to Day life of a homeschool mom, Questions and answer period. This intro session was fun and I had a great time with Nathan, Sara, and Mike Smith.
Everyone from the free homeschool session were allowed to go into the exhibit hall for free. This was something new we tried this year and many people said that this was a blessing.
Ok. So… that’s it for day one. BTW, I also had to setup the CHEA store computers and software and as usual I was running around all over the place to get tasks completed. This year I was in charge of the Free intro session and I must say, I had a great time. There were many questions and the panel answered all that we could but as usual we ran out of time. So, that’s it. I Will report about day two when that has been completed. Check the CHEA twitter (Twitter hash tag #homeschoolca) and facebook feeds for timely status updates.
